Chris Brown & Rihanna? Fight? Threats? Physical Altercation?

It is with much disappointment that I write about Chris Brown and Rihanna on my Retaliation blog. This blog is about acts of violence and acts of retaliation--two acts that I never thought I'd associate with Chris Brown and Rihanna. But news reports across the TV and the web (www.people.com  www.bossip.com ; www.theybf.com) have all reported that Chris Brown turned himself in to Los Angeles Police for felony criminal threats charges.

I'm not going to repeat everything that is circulating in the news. I'm simply going to say that acts of violence are unacceptable. A man hitting a woman is unacceptable. A man beating on a woman is unacceptable.

I'm not going to judge Chris Brown or Rihanna, but it is my sincere hope that the things that are being reported in the news are not true. It is my hope that Chris Brown--with all that talent--knows how to treat a woman. It is my hope that Rihanna--with all of her style--knows how to treat a man.

Now, I will watch, as will most of you, to see how this story unfolds. But people if you are in a position to help either Chris or Rihanna, and you know that they have a problem, please help them. Do not wait for their business to show up on the news as it did on Grammy night.  As a side note, I must say, the saddest part of Grammy night was realizing that I wouldn't see C. Breezy perform. If anger management is the problem, let's handle it because it has clearly become an issue.

Peace and love,

Hi Yasmin, I'm getting caught up on your blogs. This one in particular caught my eye.

As a gang/crime prevention specialist one of my duties is to mentor kids in a program called Drug Education for Youth (DEFY). There is a bit of confusion about physical violence and our kids are suffering for it.

We often state "a man should never hit a woman . . . boys should not hit girls". We need to change that dialog to "NO ONE should hit ANYONE!" We are seeing a surge of girl bullies who honestly believe they can "get away with it" because they were told a boy shouldn't hit them; which implies a girl "can" hit a boy.

I worked as a cop in the military. I recall going to a domestic disturbance call. When we arrived on the scene there was a woman slapping the bejeezus out of a man and screaming "HIT ME BITCH! HIT ME BACK SO THEY CAN TAKE "YOU" TO JAIL!!!" We took both of them. But due to military laws being different than civilan, the man was reprimanded.

No one should hit anyone and we all have a right to defend ourselves from violence. We have to change the dialog and focus on helping those who commit as well as those who are survivors of violence.

Lastly, while talking with a group of my DEFY kids about being safe, one of the boys said he would not fight an assailant who was trying to abduct him if she were female because he was taught not to fight girls. I explained to them that an adult trying to hurt them, regardless of sexual orientation, is still a bad person FIGHT BACK!

Thanks for so much great information.
